Brunner House
Nelson
Completed 2009

Designed as a multi-use two storey commercial development, this building has been refined to suit a medical fit-out.
Architectural moves include use of a textured timber box to articulate entry and arrival to the major upper floor tenancy. Tensioned shade sails are used both as sunscreens and to regionalise this small building in its coastal location.
Within and without the concrete, timber and ply finishes are expressed unadorned. The building tables a low tech approach to sustainability, featuring high insulation levels and double glazing, articulating forms to allow natural day light and ventilation and a responsible approach to energy usage from lighting and heating loads.
