The house sits in a new hilltop subdivision
and is surrounded by a mishmash of architectural styles
and quality, yet has breathtaking views west over the Waimea
Inlet to the Richmond Ranges. The garage acts as a privacy
screen, lending intrigue to the house behind. Flanking
steps descend to a simple entry where the house and views
unravel. Internal and external living areas are arranged
to screen neighbours and allow regular external use on a
very windy site. The roof and eucalypt ceilings are pitched
to the view and to capture light. Kitchen, dining
and living are open plan, connected by a plywood ceiling
spine. Intermittent timber walls and screens are layered
to provide identity to linked living spaces.
