This Friendship Boardwalk constitutes the third stage of a project adopted by the Nelson City Council to upgrade the Wakefield Quay waterfront between Port Nelson and Tahunanui Beach. The key intentions have been to make the water’s edge safer and more accessible to the public, promoting a promenade experience reinforced by the inclusion of public art, interpretation panels and landscaping. The development creates linkages between important features of the coastline, with places to pause, enjoy the waterfront and learn more of Nelson’s maritime history.
